REMOTE GRADING
The traditional model of color grading is based on the joint work of the director, cameraman and colorist in the same room. Remote color grading was used as an emergency option for many reasons. The main ones:
- The lack of available channels for transmitting a high-quality signal over the Internet.
- A small number of consumer devices suitable for color correction evaluation.
Covid-19 has changed a lot, professional technologies for transmitting a high-quality signal over the Internet have appeared. These services are affordable and easy to use. There are also enough devices on the market to correctly evaluate color correction remotely: MacBook Pro (2016 and newer), Ipad/Ipad pro (2017 and newer), LG, Panasonic, or Sony OLED TVs (C7 and newer)
MY REMOTE PIPELINE
1. After watching a preview of your video, we discuss the desired appearance, the process of transferring material to color, the required number and formats of masters (depending on the release platform, I can offer you different settings for the master file and approach to developing the appearance). Also at this stage you send me references. These can be pictures, verbal descriptions of emotions, or visual images from other videos.
2. We select keyshots for which I will create primary versions of the color.
3. I send you 3 versions of visual concepts. 2 versions according to your references and 1 of your own.
4. We choose 1 version that is closest to your expectations and conduct an online session.
5. After online, you watch the finished video on Frame.io. We carry out 1-2 rounds of edits. The Frame.io platform allows you to take text notes and draw directly on the image to indicate your wishes as clearly as possible.
6. If necessary, we can hold an additional online session to work on the details together.
